Organisation Overview

The Institute of Public Accountants (IPA) was formed in 1923 is a professional accounting body with over 46,500 members globally in more than 100 countries. The IPA is on equal footing with CPA Australia and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, as Australia's three legally recognised accounting bodies. The IPA is a member of the International Federation of Accountants, the Accounting Professional and Ethical Standards Board and the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants.

In 2015, the IPA acquired the Institute of Financial Accountants in the United Kingdom and in doing so formed the IPA Group which is now the largest small to medium enterprise focussed accounting organisation in the world. On 1 July 2020, the Association of Accounting Technicians in Australia (AAT) joined the IPA as a part of the IPA Group.

The IPA’s reason for being is to improve the quality of life of small business, with a vision for every small business to have an IPA member by their side.
